An ignition interlock device, or IID, is a device installed directly into the ignition of your car that requires you to prove you are sober in order to start your car.
The installation of an IID in your car may be one of the penalties associated with a DUI, particularly for repeat offenders. Furthermore, the DMV may require the installation of a IID in order for you to get a “restricted license” which will allow you to drive to and from work or DUI school.
